Trauma Nurse Core Course Certification

Learn about the Trauma Nurse Core Course Certification and what training most healthcare facilities require. Here’s what you need to know about this certification.

The Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) equips emergency nurses with essential trauma knowledge and skills to provide life-saving care. This widely recognized certification empowers nurses with critical thinking abilities, practical training, and the expertise to deliver high-quality care to trauma patients.

TNCC is taught by qualified nurses and is the recommended education for emergency nurses caring for trauma patients. Alongside the NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), this course enhances trauma patient outcomes and the quality of emergency care in both urban and rural settings. Upon completion, nurses will be proficient in systematic trauma patient assessment, interventions, and evidence-based nursing care within a trauma team.

The TNCC Course is offered exclusively to licensed registered nurses through ENA University. Licensed practical nurses and paramedics can attend the course for continuing nurse education (CNE) hours, but are not eligible for provider status verification. The course spans one-and-a-half days, providing 18.25 CNE hours. Explore the available ENA memberships to determine the best fit for you.

The course utilizes various learning methods, including a comprehensive manual, online modules, simulations, and instructor-led classroom discussions. The manual, a valuable resource, contains current trauma nursing standards for future reference. Online modules offer interactive case studies and pre-course information, enabling self-paced learning. Simulations involve skills stations to practice trauma patient assessments and interventions in a controlled environment. Upon completion, nurses receive an internationally recognized TNCC provider verification valid for four years. For those seeking to renew their TNCC verification card and prefer independent study, ENA offers a Fast Track course option.
