CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Training equips professionals with proven de-escalation techniques and behavior management strategies to foster a safe and supportive environment. Many hospitals, particularly Emergency Departments and Behavioral Health units, require staff to hold a valid CPI Training certification.

An acceptable CPI Training Card will have the following:

  • Your Name

  • Issue Date

  • Amount of Hours Completed

IMPORTANT: If you have a Certificate of Achievement for the successful completion of CPI training, you must upload this as CPI Blue Card for us to be able to accept and verify it.

Types of CPI Training

CPI offers several training programs tailored to different roles and risk levels. The three most common types include:

CPI Blue Card

Designed for primary caregivers, educators, and healthcare professionals who may need to physically intervene during a crisis. This training focuses on verbal de-escalation, as well as both restrictive and non-restrictive physical intervention techniques.

This is the most commonly required CPI certification by our facility partners. For more information on the CPI Blue card click here.

In-Person Crisis Prevention Training

Best suited for organizations with hands-off policies, this training emphasizes verbal de-escalation and safe, non-restrictive techniques to manage crisis situations without physical intervention.

Online Crisis Prevention Training

Ideal for staff working in high-risk environments, this course builds decision-making skills and covers verbal intervention strategies alongside restrictive interventions and advanced physical techniques—including those needed for scenarios involving floor interventions.
