When our nurses show up to shifts on time and own it, our healthcare facility partners consider us the rockstars of reliability. And when facilities trust us, they add more shifts to our app for you to claim. That's why we hold our healthcare professionals accountable for every shift they claim.

Shift Violations

We have four types of shift violations, with each one contributing to our attendance policy differently. So, before you can understand our attendance policy, it's important to understand the meaning of these shift violations.

Shift Cancellation

This violation occurs when you cancel a shift less than 72 hours before the scheduled start time. All shift cancellations must happen in the app—texting or calling doesn't count.

It's not a violation to cancel a shift 72 hours or more before the scheduled start time.

Shift Call Out

This violation occurs when you cancel a shift less than 24 hours before the scheduled start time. All shift cancellations must happen in the app—texting or calling doesn't count

No Call, No Show

This violation occurs when you fail to call out of your shift before the scheduled start time and don't show up.

Walkout

This violation occurs when you leave a shift without facility authorization. A walkout is job abandonment and results in automatic termination.

Attendance Policy

When you claim a shift, you're promising to show up for your patients. Not to mention, you agreed to our attendance policy when you signed the employee handbook, which states any of the following actions will result in a 14-day suspension:

  • 3 call outs within the same pay period

  • 4 cancellations within the same pay period

  • ANY call out within 2 hours of a shift

  • ANY no call, no show

You receive a 30-day attendance probation following a suspension. While on probation, any shift violation (call out, cancellation, no call/no show, walkout) is subject to termination. So only claim shifts you know you can work.

Show Rate Policy

We also take our show rates very seriously. Your show rate updates in real-time and can be found in the side menu under your profile picture.

When you keep your show rate high, you have access to special perks via our ShiftMed Platinum Rewards Program.

If your show rate drops below 70%, you won't be able to claim more than three shifts at a time or shifts that are more than 72 hours out.

If your show rate is 30% or lower, you're automatically put on attendance probation. At this point, any no call/no show is subject to immediate termination, and any shift call out or cancellation results in a 14-day suspension.

Show Rate Tiers

If you want to be at the top of your game and score amazing perks via our Platinum Rewards Program, you'll want to aim for Platinum Tier status. Being in our Pro Tier is okay—it's just the perks of being a Platinum shifter are way better.

If your show rate drops below the ShiftMed standard and you find yourself in the Purple Tier, you'll automatically be put on precautionary probation until your show rate improves.

Establishing Your Show Rate

If you're new to the ShiftMed team, you must work four shifts before we can establish your show rate. Simply claim four shifts and show up to all of them—that'll put you at a 100% show rate, and you'll jump straight to Platinum Tier status like a boss!

Your show rate is NOT impacted if a facility cancels or sends you home early.

Maintaining Your Show Rate

Whether you're new to the flexible work game or a seasoned ShiftMed player, the easiest way to maintain your show rate is to work every shift you claim. So, only claim shifts you're confident you can attend.

However, we understand life happens. People get sick, cars break down, and family emergencies occur—we totally get it. We ask that you do your best to show up for the shifts you claim and connect with us ASAP if you can't. Maintaining your show rate is all about keeping your shift violations to a minimum.

If you've got transportation issues, you can schedule a discounted Uber Health ride to and from your shift in the ShiftMed app.
