Credentials are vital to claiming shifts in our app. The more you have, the more shift opportunities you have to choose from.

While every ShiftMed healthcare professional must meet a series of core requirements to work with us, many of our healthcare facility partners have additional requirements specific to their locations.

For example, some facilities require you to complete a drug screen or orientation shift, while others don't. So, how do you know if you have the proper credentials for a specific facility? The app will tell you.

Unlock vs. Claim Button

If you come across a shift card in your shift feed that has an Unlock button instead of a Claim button, it means the shift is locked, and you're unable to claim it due to a missing credential.

Tap the Unlock button to see what you're missing. For example, you may need:

  • A facility-specific credential (e.g., drug screening, MMR, health insurance card).

  • To renew an expired credential (e.g., annual physical, TB test, flu shot).

  • A shift-specific credential (e.g., nursing specialty certification).

  • To complete an orientation shift at that location before claiming other shifts.

If it's for some other reason, the app will direct you to contact us.

Unlocking a Locked Shift: Missing or Expired Credential

If you're unable to claim a shift(s) because you're missing a credential or the one we have on file has expired, you can unlock these shifts by taking one of these actions below:

Option 1:

  • Tap the Unlock button on the shift card.

  • Tap on the missing or expired credential at the bottom of the Unlock Facility screen.

  • Submit your missing or renewed document via the upload screen for us to verify.

Option 2:

  • Go to the My Credentials section of the app.

  • Tap on the Additional tab.

  • Upload your missing or renewed document for us to verify.

Missing or expired credentials may include:

  • Annual Physical

  • TB Test

  • COVID Test

  • MMR Vaccination

  • Flu Vaccination

  • Drug Screening

  • Health Insurance Card

  • Resume and References

Pro Tip: Most states, minus California, Illinois, and Indiana, accept renewal agreements to extend your annual physical and TB test credentials after they expire so you can continue to work while renewing them. Access these renewal agreements in the My Credentials section of the app.

Unlocking a Locked Shift: Missing a Nurse Specialty Credential

If you specialize in an area of nursing practice, but we haven't verified your certification information yet, you won't be able to claim a specialty shift.

Check out this article for a complete list of CNA, LPN, and RN specialties we are currently hiring for.

To submit your certification information for us to verify, you can follow Option 1 or Option 2 listed above. After you upload your certification information, we will text you a verification questionnaire that you must complete and submit back to us.

Once we receive your completed questionnaire, we will verify this credential so you can unlock applicable specialty shifts.

Unlocking a Locked Shift: Missing Orientation Shift

Some healthcare facilities require you to work an orientation shift before you can claim other shifts at their locations. Look for an Orientation badge in your shift feed.

Some orientation shifts align with a specific nursing specialty. For example, if you're an RN with a Med/Surg specialty, be sure to complete the Med/Surg orientation.
