As a ShiftMed employee, you can only work up to 40 hours a week—unless a facility or management company allows overtime, and you meet the eligibility requirements.
Suppose you claimed 40 hours within a ShiftMed week (Saturday-Friday). You won't be able to pick up any more regular shifts for that week. If overtime shifts are available for that week, they'll be displayed in the shift feed for you to claim.
However, you may or may not be eligible to claim specific overtime shifts. If you're not eligible, a red banner error will display in the app and explain why. What are some reasons you might not be able to claim an overtime shift?
You haven't claimed/worked 40 hours at that facility or management company.
You've exceeded the allowable overtime hours at that facility.
If a management company allows overtime, you don't have to work 40 regular hours at one facility. You can break those hours up between facilities operated by that management company. Any allowable overtime hours for that management company are cumulative, not per facility.
Blended Overtime Rates
Blended overtime rates ensure that employees receive fair compensation for their overtime hours based on the actual rates of pay they receive for different types of work.
The method calculates the overtime pay for employees who work a combination of different shifts or have varying pay rates for various types of work within the same pay period.
Instead of simply applying one fixed overtime rate to all hours worked beyond the standard workweek, a blended overtime rate considers the different pay rates for various types of work.
Take note that overtime rates in California are handled differently. Visit the State of California Department of Industrial Relations website for more information.

Every facility and management company determines how much overtime they will allow.

We use a blended overtime rate to ensure you are fairly compensated (unless you work in California).
Why can't I claim an overtime shift in the app?
Usually, it's because you haven't claimed/worked 40 regular hours at that facility or management company or have exceeded the allowable overtime hours at that facility or management company.
Do I have to work all my regular 40 hours at the same facility?
