A Mask Fit Test (MFT) is a mandatory requirement for clinical staff at SSM Health and many other health systems. Proper preparation involves two key steps: medical clearance and the physical test.
Step 1: Obtain Medical Clearance Prior to Orientation
Prior to testing, you must receive medical clearance to ensure wearing a respirator does not pose a health risk. This is assessed through a standardized OSHA Respirator Medical Evaluation Questionnaire.
Action Required: Complete the questionnaire, which includes questions about respiratory history (e.g., asthma, lung conditions), and other relevant health factors.
You must present your completed and signed clearance form at your orientation shift. Without it, you will be unable to proceed with the physical fit test.
How to Complete the Medical Clearance Assessment
Once you have signed up, if you are required to get an N-95 Mask Fit test, you will receive an email from out team with an Access code for the assessment.
Enter the access code you received in your email
βInput your information
βSign the disclaimer
βTake the assessment: The online assessment consists of around 35 multi-part questions and will take approximately 5-7 minutes to complete.
Once the medical clearance assessment is cleared, you will receive an email with a printable form. Make sure you print the form and bring it with you for your orientation shift.
Step 2: Undergo the Fit Test During Orientation
The physical test verifies that an N-95 respirator forms a proper seal on your face. Please follow all instructions provided by the trained tester during your orientation.
