You must clock in and out of your shifts using the ShiftMed app. By doing so, we have an accurate timekeeping record that ensures you're paid correctly based on your work hours.

While some facilities require you to use their timekeeping system to clock in and out, you must still clock in and out via the ShiftMed app.

Clocking In Instructions

Five minutes before your shift starts, you'll receive a push notification on your phone reminding you to clock in when you arrive at the facility. (Your push notifications must be enabled.)

Clock in when you arrive at the nurses' station. The app uses your GPS location to confirm you're at the facility when you clock in. (Your location services must be enabled.)

  1. Tap on My Shifts at the bottom of your feed.

  2. Select the current shift you're about to work.

  3. Tap the Clock In button.

  4. Get a nursing supervisor's signature, if the facility requires it.

Clocking Out Instructions

When it's time to clock out of your shift, you must do so in the ShiftMed app, which always requires a nursing supervisor's signature. If you've tried and are unsuccessful in getting a signature, you still need to finish clocking out in the app.

  1. Tap on My Shifts at the bottom of your feed.

  2. Tap the Clock Out button.

  3. Get a nursing supervisor's signature and have them tap the Approve button.

If you clock out of your shift without a nursing supervisor's signature, you will NOT be able to use our Next Day Pay® or Instant Pay service. You may also experience a delay in your pay.

Supervisor Unavailable

If you cannot locate a nursing supervisor to get their signature when clocking in or out, you can select the Supervisor Unavailable button if the facility allows it.

Remember, you will not be able to access Next Day Pay or Instant Pay without a signature.

After tapping Supervisor Unavailable, you'll get this pop-up: Are you sure you want to clock [in/out] without a supervisor's signature? You need to be sure because this shift may be disputed, which can impact your pay.

Technical Issues

If you encounter a technical issue when clocking in or out of a shift, you can manually submit your time to us. However, doing so may delay the processing of your pay. Therefore, we recommend taking these steps before going the manual route:

  • Ensure you have the most up-to-date version of the ShiftMed app on your device.

  • Fully close the app and then reopen it to see if that solves the issue.

  • Ask permission to step outside the facility if you have a poor data connection.

If you're still unable to clock in or out, please send us a chat in the app, requesting a missed punch form.

ShiftMed has implemented a Missed Punch Form policy: you’ll be allowed 2 missed punch submissions every 6 months. Any additional MPF submissions within the 6-month period may result in a disciplinary action such as suspension or termination.
