ShiftMed’s partnership with Uber Health allows you to conveniently schedule rides to and from your shifts directly within the app.

How does it work?

  • Cost: ShiftMed does not pay for rides. The full cost of the ride, including peak-hour surcharges, will be deducted from your shift earnings.

  • Availability: Rides are subject to driver availability in your area and are not guaranteed.

  • Cost Limit: You will be unable to book any ride with an estimated cost exceeding $100.

Scheduling a Ride to Your Shift

You can schedule a ride during the shift claim process or later:

  1. Navigate to the My Shifts section.

  2. Select the Upcoming tab.

  3. Tap Schedule an Uber for the relevant shift.

  4. Review the pickup location (defaults to your profile address) and estimated cost. You may edit the pickup location.

  5. Confirm the ride. Rides must be scheduled more than one hour before the shift start time.

Scheduling a Ride Home

  • Immediately after clocking out, a pop-up will prompt you to schedule a ride home.

  • This is the only opportunity to book a return ride within the ShiftMed app. If dismissed, you must use your personal ride-share app.

  • Your home address is the default destination, but you may edit it before confirming.

Post-Booking Information

  • Confirmation: A booking confirmation will appear in the My Shifts section under the relevant shift.

  • Notifications: You will receive SMS updates and an auto-dialed call for pickup notifications. To manage SMS subscriptions, text "START" to 425.310.4746.

  • Payment: The final ride cost will be displayed as a deduction in the Past Shifts section after drop-off.

Cancellation Policy

Your Uber Health ride will be automatically canceled if:

  • The facility cancels your shift.

  • You call out of the shift.

  • If your driver cancels, the app will automatically search for a new driver.

ShiftMed does not pay for rides booked either on the ShiftMed app or through Uber and Lyft apps. Additionally, the availability of Uber Health rides is not guaranteed, as it depends on the drivers in your local area.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I have to be an Uber customer to request a ride in the ShiftMed app?

    • No, this is separate from a personal Uber account.

  • Do I need the Uber app to request a ride in the ShiftMed app?

    • No, our Uber Health rides do not require you to have the Uber app.

  • Why am I unable to request a ride in the ShiftMed app?

    • We want to ensure that you arrive for your shift on time. So, where there is less than 80% reliability, we don't allow the scheduling of the ride.

  • How will I know my ride is booked?

    • In the My Shifts section of the app, you'll see Uber Scheduled listed under the shift for which you have a ride booked. If the shift starts within 23 hours, the pickup time will also be listed; if the shift starts in more than 23 hours, the date of the pickup will be listed.

    • In addition to finding your upcoming booked rides in the app, you also receive an SMS and an auto-dialed call letting you know your ride is booked and when your driver has arrived. Note: If you opt out of Uber Health's SMS messages, you can always text "START" to 425.310.4746 to re-subscribe.

  • Where will the Uber Health driver pick me up?

    • The pickup location defaults to the home address you have listed on your ShiftMed profile. You can edit your home address in the app or update your pickup location when you schedule your ride.

  • How much do Uber Health rides cost?

    • The cost estimate will display in the app when you schedule a ride. After being dropped off, the actual cost will show up as a deduction in the Past Shifts section of the app.

  • Is there a limit to how much a ride can cost?

    • Yes, you won't be able to book any ride that's estimated to cost more than $100. While we want you to have the option to book an Uber Health ride to get to work, we want to ensure the ride's cost won't negatively impact your earnings.

  • How do I pay for my Uber Health ride?

    • The fare gets deducted from your total shift earnings. Please be aware that you'll have to pay surcharges for rides requested during peak times. There isn't a maximum limit for how much an Uber Health ride can cost.

  • What if I schedule an Uber Health ride and the facility cancels the shift?

    • The app cancels your ride request.

  • What if I schedule an Uber Health ride and call out of that shift?

    • The app cancels your ride request.
