Reliability and quality care mean everything when working with patients. When a healthcare professional cancels a shift at the last minute, fails to show up to a facility, or arrives late to work, we risk losing community partners and the opportunities those facilities provide to all of us.

Your reliability is the foundation of our trust with healthcare facilities. High show rates lead to more available shifts for everyone. This policy outlines the standards for attendance and the consequences of violations to ensure a consistent and high-quality experience for all.

By claiming shifts, you acknowledge your understanding of and agreement to this policy. Our goal is to support your flexible work while maintaining the unwavering reliability our healthcare partners and patients deserve.

Types of Shift Violations

Understanding these definitions is essential to complying with our attendance policy.

All schedule changes must be made within the ShiftMed app; communication via text or call is not sufficient.

Cancellation

  • Canceling a shift less than 72 hours before its scheduled start time.

Call Out

  • Canceling a shift less than 24 hours before its scheduled start time.

No Call, No Show

  • Failing to call out and failing to report for a scheduled shift.

Walkout

  • Leaving a shift without authorization from the facility.

A walkout is considered job abandonment and results in immediate termination.

Attendance Policy & Violation Consequences

When you claim a shift, you make a commitment to your patients and our facility partners. The following violations will result in an immediate 14-day suspension:

  • Three (3) Call-Outs within a single pay period.

  • Four (4) Cancellations within a single pay period.

  • Any Call-Out within 2 hours of a shift's start time.

  • Any single instance of a No Call, No Show.

  • Any Call-Out with an overall show rate below 30%.

Following a suspension, you will be placed on a 30-day Attendance Probation.
During this probationary period, any subsequent shift violation (Call-Out, Cancellation, No Call/No Show, or Walkout) is grounds for immediate termination.

Running Late for a Shift

Please do your best to arrive on time. The ShiftMed app tracks your shift check-ins (and check-outs) to ensure you're on time.

We count excessive tardiness as arriving more than 15 minutes late to your shift.

Excessive tardiness (over 15 minutes) may result in being marked a "no-call, no-show" and disqualify you from receiving cancellation pay for that shift, where permitted by law.

Show Rate Policy

Your Show Rate is a real-time metric measuring the percentage of claimed shifts you have attended. You can view your current rate in the app side menu under your profile.

Show Rate Tiers & Impacts:

  • Platinum Tier (Highest Show Rate): Grants access to exclusive perks through the ShiftMed Platinum Rewards Program.

  • Pro Tier (Standard Show Rate): Maintains full shift-claiming capabilities.

  • Purple Tier (Show Rate below 70%):

    • You cannot claim more than three (3) shifts at a time.

    • You cannot claim shifts more than 72 hours in advance.

  • Critical Tier (Show Rate at or below 30%):

    • You are automatically placed on attendance probation.

    • Any No Call, No Show is subject to immediate termination.

    • Any Call-Out or Cancellation will result in a 14-day suspension.

Establishing & Maintaining Your Show Rate

  • For New Nursing Professionals: You must complete your first four (4) shifts to establish a show rate. Successfully working all four will grant you a 100% rate and Platinum Tier status.

  • What Doesn’t Affect Your Rate: Your show rate is not penalized if a facility cancels your shift or sends you home early.

  • Best Practices:

    • Only claim shifts you are confident you can work.

    • Life events happen. If you cannot attend a shift, notify us through the app immediately to minimize violations.

Need Transportation? Schedule a discounted ride to and from your shift using the Uber Health integration within the ShiftMed app.
