Background Check Steps
Before you can start your background check, you must first have your core credentials verified. This includes your Professional License, Identification and I-9.
The process for the completion of your background check will depend upon your residency for the state of Pennsylvania.
If you have been a PA resident for LESS than two years
Your first step will be to complete an FBI Background Check through the PA Department of Aging.
Once completed, you will initiate your state background check, by unlocking a shift.
On the "Unlock Facility" page, find the Complete Requirements section.
Select the Background Check option.
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the required forms directly in the app.
If you have been a PA resident for MORE than two years
To initiate a background check, you must first unlock a shift
On the "Unlock Facility" page, find the Complete Requirements section.
Select the Background Check option.
Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the required forms directly in the app. You must finish these forms to proceed.
The ShiftMed app will notify you right away when you are available to start working.

Working at Acute Hospitals in Pennsylvania
To work in our acute hospitals the state of Pennsylvania, regardless of residency status, you will need to complete an FBI Background through the Department of Human Services in addition to the previously mentioned requirements.
What Happens Next
ShiftMed will receive your background check results once you submit the forms.
The Pennsylvania (PA) Patch portion of the check is processed by an external agency and can take 7-10 business days.
You cannot upload your PA Patch results in the app. Please email your PA Patch to bg@shiftmed.com.
While processing, your Background Check credential will appear as "Pending" in the My Credentials section of the app.
Once Your Background Check is Complete
When we receive the final results (including your PA Patch results from our partner, Checkr), your profile and credential status will be updated automatically. You will then see this requirement marked as complete.
