What credentials do I need to work as a Med Recep in California?

Thank you for your interest in ShiftMed. Here is a Checklist of requirements for Med Recep's that are interested in working through ShiftMed in California.


Required Documents

First documents you will need to upload prior to completing your profile and uploading state specific requirements.

When signing up to work with ShiftMed in the app you will then be prompted to enter your:

  • Proof of Identification (DL, Photo ID, Passport, etc.)

  • Social Security Number

  • Professional License: (6+ months of experience on Resume)

    • You can upload multiple Professional Licenses and any Specialties, if applicable.

Please Note: You must be professionally licensed to practice in this State.


Required Forms

Forms that must be signed in the ShiftMed App before you can start uploading credentials:

  • Training Manual: Complete directly within the app using the tap to sign feature.

  • Company Handbook: Complete directly within the app using the tap to sign feature.

  • CA Meal Period Policy and Rest Break Policy: Complete directly within the app using the tap to sign feature.

  • Arbitration Agreement

Please note that specific facility credentials could be asked of you when attempting to claim a shift. These are NOT required for you to be hired by ShiftMed. These are special requirements that some of our partner facilities require. For more information on Facility Specific Credentials, CLICK HERE.

  • CA Sexual Harassment Training: To work with California facilities, you must complete the mandatory sexual harassment training certification

  • 1-step PPD, 2-step PPD or TB Blood Test: PPD must be completed within the last year. Chest X-Ray must be completed within the last 5 years

    • TB Baseline Risk Agreement Form

  • COVID-19 Vaccine: All HCPs must have either a COVID-19 Vaccination (1-2 doses or booster) or must complete a Medical or Religious Exemption form in the app.

  • Background Check: Complete Checkr Consent Form to start a Criminal Background Check. Background Check authorization will prompt once individuals attempt to claim a shift at a facility within the ShiftMed app.

    • Complete directly within the app using the tab to sign feature once you have uploaded your Annual Physical, TB Test, and ID.

  • License Certificate: The Professional License Certificate credential in the app is used to contain a document that a state’s licensing body issues after a healthcare professional has met the state requirements and passed a specific licensing exam for a particular professional license type.

  • MMR: Some ShiftMed facility partners require healthcare professionals to show proof of MMR vaccination or a titer test.

  • Flu Shot: Some of our partner facilities in the area do require a flu shot during flu season.

  • Varicella: Some ShiftMed facility partners require healthcare professionals to show proof of completing the Varicella vaccination or a positive titer test.

  • Skills Self Evaluation: Some of our partner facilities may be require you to submit a self-evaluation of your nursing skills.

  • N95 Mask Fit: Some of our partner facilities require a MFT to assess whether you are at risk of harm from wearing a respirator based on your health history and conditions.

  • Hepatitis B Vaccine: Some ShiftMed facility partners require healthcare professionals to show proof of completing the hepatitis B vaccination series or a titer test.

  • TDAP Vaccine: Some ShiftMed facility partners require healthcare professionals to show proof of receiving the Tdap vaccination or completing a titer test.

  • Crisis Prevention Training (CPI): Some ShiftMed facility partners require CPI Training certification.

  • LA Fire Card: Fire Life Safety certificate may be required by some of our partner facilities.

  • Diploma

  • NIH Stroke Scale Course: The NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) is a critical component of acute stroke assessment and may be required for certain Specialties.

  • Online Learning Certification - We have partnered with some of our Acute Health Systems to provide learning modules for our RNs, CNAs, and RTs. These modules vary based on specialty, location, and previous experience with the facility. You must complete these modules to be able to claim shifts at the facility.

  • Skills Assessment: This checklist is an essential part of our commitment to compliance and auditing with SSM Health.

  • TNCC: The Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) equips emergency nurses with essential trauma knowledge and skills to provide life-saving care.

  • IV Therapy Certificate: Some ShiftMed facility partners in California and Florida require healthcare professionals to show proof of IV Therapy Certification.
